Nate and I recently went on a weekend getaway to Baltimore and the DC area. We had a great time, relaxing and a lot of site seeing. We got there early Friday morning and spent all day at the Inner Harbor. We went to the aquarium and saw a dolphin show. That had to be the highlight of my trip. Saturday we spent all day in DC and walked a good 8 or 9 miles. We were worn out but really enjoyed the day. We took a tour of the Capital building, it was beautiful inside. My favorite was the painting that was done on the inside of the rotunda. At the very top was the famous canopy painting "The Apotheosis of George Washington." Apotheosis means raising a man to the status of a god, and that is exactly what they did to George Washington. In the painting, he is seated in Heaven surrounded by thirteen angels representing the original thirteen colonies. Some of the angels were holding a banner that read, " e pluribus unam" which means "Out of many one!" I love that!!! From there, we walked to many of the museums, I loved the National Air and Space Museum, there were so many things to see. Then it was off to find the White House, and then Lincoln's Memorial. This was Nathan's first time visiting DC and these were his two favorite places. There is so much that we did not even get to see, so we look forward to the next time we go when we can take the kids with us.
