One Year at Shawnee Run

A year ago today we signed papers on the house and moved in. We are still in love with it, I can't imagine being anywhere than where we are now. When we were trying to decide if we should build this house, we wanted to make sure that we blessed God in every way with how we used it. We wanted to be sure to use what He had provided us with for the good of others and open our home to not only family but friends and even strangers. There is a saying on our fridge that reads "Happy is the home that shelters a friend". We have lived up to that statement many times this past year. Not long after moving in, we had my old roommate, her husband and son stay with us while they were here doing missions work. We have had good friends who were relocating live with us for 6 weeks while they looked for a house, many family members often stay with us, and we have had many cookouts, parties and get-togethers with friends.
We love the neighborhood and where we are located. It is close to everything, but still out a ways enough where it is quiet. I love to sit outside at night or have the windows open during this time of year. We can hear the faint sound of the roller coasters from Kings Island and see the fireworks at night as well. We have awesome neighbors right behind us who are so much fun. We have dinner with them a couple times a month and love to hang out and just laugh. We have had them over to play cards, watch American Idol, several cookouts or just a random night of corn hole tournaments.
We have yet to finish all the decorating still, and have not even come close to finishing the basement like we want to. I might not have curtains up anywhere, or have all my rooms painted, or have the best furniture in all my rooms. We have put in a pavier patio in the back and sodded the backyard. We would love to add to the patio in the future but knew that it was not important to have it all right now. We still have a lot of flowerbed work to do and want to add a few trees as well. Again, it all comes in time. But I am ok with that. I am ok with not having it all. God has blessed us with what we have now and it is more than I could ever ask for. I thank God for providing a beautiful home to raise my kids in and make memories in with them. God is good and I pray that He is proud of us and the work we are doing for Him inside our home.
