What do these three things have in common? They were all seen in our living room last night. We went out to get a few last minute gifts at Kohl's last night around 5:30 or so. When we came home to make dinner, the power was out in the entire neighborhood. So we decided to wait it out and see what happened. It was about 8pm when we decided to go to McDonald's to get something to eat. We came back home and had a picnic on the living room floor. It was so cold that the three of us were all using big fleece blankets to keep us warm. We had candles going so we could see and we just sat and talked about everything a 2 and a half year old wants to talk about- Trains!!!! It was so much fun. I was really upset at first, I didn't want to go out to get fast food, and we have so much to do around the house before Christmas. I had laundry to do, wrapping some gifts, cleaning the bathrooms, and the bedroom closet, but I couldn't do any of those as it was impossible to see in the dark and it was freezing. We put Blake to bed and Nate and I cuddled up on the couch. We talked about the very first Christmas we could remember when we were kids, and then all the things that we used to ask for. It was a lot of fun. There were things that we might not have ever told each other had the power not gone out. I loved it, it was so quiet outside, no hum of the electricity, no TV, no computers (as ours both had dead batteries). We sat there for two hours and just enjoyed each others company and past memories. I kind of hope the power goes out again soon. I think God was telling us that we just needed to stop and listen and remember what Christmas is all about.
