It Happened!! It actually Happened!

So you have heard moms say to other moms, "Don't worry, your child will not go to school in diapers! He/She will come around on their own time and just do it. It will happen. Don't force them." HAHAH!! This did not apply to us. I thought for sure Mckenna would be the first person in the world to start school and not be potty trained. She is so stubborn that she just would not do it! We have been trying for a while now to potty train her. She would go here and there but most of the time the here and there was on the living room carpet. Her and I would fight in the bathroom as I sat there and tried to talk her into going potty. It got to the point where I knew that nothing was going to work, that her and I crying on the bathroom floor was not how it was supposed to happen. We tried everything from M&M's, money, toys, movies and even offering to give her her own DS like her brother had that she wanted so badly. When she looked at us and said one night, "I don't want a DS now, I don't want anything!", we knew we were in trouble. So we gave up and let it go. We figured it would be awhile longer and we would have to keep buying diapers.
I asked the doctor back in October what she recommended for potty training a stubborn child and she said....."Don't do anything!" What? Are you kidding me? That is the advice she had for me. Not what I wanted to hear. She said, "Wait until she is closer to three or even after and then take 4 days and go hard core. The first 2 will be terrible and then she will just get it." I just looked at her. When do I have 4 days to sit at home and potty train? I wanted to laugh out loud and cry at the same time. That's when I admitted...yes my child will start school and not be potty trained.
After getting home from our holiday traveling, we knew we had 4 days where we only had one major thing planned. So we bunkered down and went for it. We gave her no option and just did it. It was a tough few days.
Well we are now on day 6 and have only had 3 accidents and those were on day one and two. I think that it is safe to say....WE DID IT!! or should I say....SHE DID IT!!!! We are so excited about it! I am so proud of her and she gets the biggest smile on her face each time she goes!! She yells to tell Nathan and Blake each time and they both do the happy dance and shout and scream for her!! She loves it!!
I must say, I could not have done it with out the support of a friend from church who kept encouraging me to not give up. We called her daughter who is Mckennas age and good friend from church and they were so cute on the phone.
Again, I never thought this day would come and it finally has and we are still abut 6 weeks away from her turning 3! Now on to the next challenge...the stubbornness!
Here she is in her big girl underwear along with
her baby Kate who is also potty trained!
